Tiny Web Server
A Mac utility that turns a folder into a local website. Switch a server on and open its pages and files in a browser. It runs on your Mac.
Choose a folder. Switch it on.
Serve a folder
Choose a folder, or drop one onto the list, and switch the server on. Pages and files open in a browser on this Mac, including when the Mac is offline. Leave the app open while you use them.
Each folder can have its own port. An optional alias, up to 12 characters, is shown beside the port. A switch that is on starts again the next time you open the app.
Directory listing
A folder with index.html opens that page. A folder without one shows the files, with name, modified time, and size. Click a column to sort. When the list is long, filter by name.
Turn the list off and a folder without index.html returns 404. Addresses of known files still open.
A built site can use single page rewrite, open pages without the .html suffix, and send CORS headers when another site needs to request these files.
Same Wi-Fi
Turn on port forwarding and a phone on the same Wi-Fi can open the folder and download files. The QR code uses that LAN address, and the image can be saved to Downloads. With forwarding off, only this Mac can open the server.
HTTPS and a password
Generate a certificate on this Mac and install it so the browser trusts the https address. HTTP basic authentication asks for a username and password before the files are shown.
